The Thunder
IN THE NAME OF GOD, THE MOST GRACIOUS, THE DISPENSER OF GRACE
[13:42]
Now those who lived before these [sinners] did, too, devise many a blasphemy – but the most subtle devising is that of God, who knows what each human being deserves: and the deniers of the truth will [in time] come to know to whom the future belongs.

* v.42 : Lit., “did scheme”-an expression which in this context apparently refers to blasphemous ideas and attitudes.
* Lit., “earns” – i.e., of good and evil.
* For an explanation of this rendering of ‘uqbā’d-dār (which is here synonymous with ‘āqibat ad-dār), see sūrah 6, note 118.
